Recyclable polyolefin films

Alupol Packaging promotes laminates based on recyclable polyolefin films. Packaging based on BOPP film and PE are applicable to a wide variety of products.

Thanks to many research and development works, laminate structures have been developed that meet the guidelines of the "European strategy for plastics in the circular economy".

In May 2018, the EU Council adopted new waste management regulations. The package of documents establishes new rules for waste management and recycling targets legally introduced in all EU Countries. The new rules protect both the environment and the health of citizens. Member States will gradually increase recycling rates to achieve the goal of reintroducing recovered raw materials into the European economy. The package is therefore expected to help transition to a circular economy in which waste is gradually becoming a resource and in which new economic opportunities arise.

For packaging manufacturers, the published „European Strategy for Plastics in a Circular Economy" defines the goal of ensuring that no recyclable or other recovery waste is accepted for storage from 2030. Product manufacturers will be responsible for managing the waste stage of their products and will be required to bearfinancial costs.

Following the publication of this strategy, major European packaging recipients have pledged that their flexible packaging will be recyclable by the end of 2025. These packaging will be made of homogeneous materials that can be reused in the economy. In the food industry, laminates will have structures based mainly on polypropylene and polyethylene films. Such decisions 100% coincide with the expectations of the Management Board of Alupol Packaging, which already in 2014 decided to implement large investments in the processing of polypropylenes. Earlier investments in blowing lines were strengthening the development of the processing technology of polyethylenes. Now Alupoi derives from the fact taken a very accurate investment decisions not only rewarding, but very measurable benefits.

The packaging industry has long activities were carried out, which resulted in reducing the negative impact of packaging on the environment. The largest recipients of flexible packaging intensively implemented various development scenarios. Directions of changes aimed at eg. to eliminate the aluminum foil, increasing the share of recycled paper in the laminate structure, thinning thick laminates or change the structures of opaque to transparent.

EU rules have now set a trend that obliges producers to use packaging that can be recycled or reused, and to better manage waste. Previously implemented projects had the context of both pro-environmental activities and those aimed at reducing the price of packaging. Now the EU policy clearly defines the principles of technology development for the next several years. With the aptly investment decisions taken, the European policy on piastic is Alupol favorable. We have been specializing in the production of PE film for 20 years and we have been one of the largest BOPP polypropylene film producers for 3 years. So, thanks to the assumption that polyolefin based laminate structures will be recyclable, Alupol will promote laminates based on proprietary PE, HBF™ and BOPP films.
